Welcome to the website created for the Championing Health Justice Partnerships Conference hosted by the Health Justice Community of Practice in Ontario, Canada.

About the Conference

Across Ontario, many health challenges are rooted in unmet legal and social needs—from unsafe housing and income insecurity to discrimination and barriers to care. Too often, these health-harming legal needs go unrecognized, deepening inequities in both health and justice.

Health Justice Partnerships (HJPs) are changing that. By bringing healthcare and legal professionals together, HJPs enable earlier intervention, more holistic support, and stronger, community-centered responses.

The Health & Justice Community of Practice (HJ COP), a province-wide network of practitioners, advocates, and researchers, is working to grow and strengthen this movement. With support from the Law Foundation of Ontario, the HJ COP is advancing the Championing Health Justice Partnerships project to expand access to justice and improve health equity across the province.

Join us from September 22–23, 2026, at the Osgoode Professional Development Centre (1 Dundas St W Suite #2602) in Toronto, Ontario, for a community-focused conference that will bring together leaders across sectors to share practical insights, foster collaboration, and drive action. Together, we will explore how to better identify and address health-harming legal needs, scale Health Justice Partnerships, and shape the future of this work in Ontario. The Health Justice Community of Practice’s work is carried out across the 46 treaties and other agreements that cover the territory now called Ontario. We are grateful to have the opportunity to live and work in the community on these territories. Specific to our work, Indigenous Peoples experience disproportionate levels of poverty because of targeted and sustained colonial harms, including those perpetrated by the legal and health systems, that continue today. We hope our work on these territories can work to build a legal system and health care system, that supports equity and dignity for Indigenous Peoples.
